Minor Pentatonic

Minor pentatonic is the simplest functional minor scale: five notes (1 ♭3 4 5 ♭7), no half-steps, no leading tones. C minor pentatonic: C E♭ F G B♭ C.

The bedrock vocabulary of blues, rock, and modal jazz. With no half-steps in the scale, every note works over a m7 chord — you can't play a "wrong" note. The corresponding minor blues scale (this scale's blues-scale superset) just adds the ♭5 / ♯4 blue note between 4 and 5.
